Overview of Loyd Park
The number one priority of establishing Joe Pool Lake, which accompanies Loyd Park, is to control the water distributing into the Trinity River along with the fishing and recreation use in the area. Loyd Park’s mission statement expresses enhancing the quality of life and creating community through people, programs, places and partnerships. The vision focuses on bringing people together to change lives. The mission statement also incorporates an opportunity of play, creative expression and stress-relief. October 1, 2001 marked the last day that the park was managed and operated under the Trinity River Authority (TRA) until the city of Grand Prairie took over the lease. Loyd Park is in fact named after the Loyd family who actually settled the land that is now currently Loyd Park many centuries ago. In the same place where the old Loyd House once stood before burning down is the current Loyd House, which is open for anyone to rent and stay in at any time.
